5 Christmas Gifts for your Gamer

As I mentioned in my last post, Christmases and birthdays are pretty easy if your spouse is a gamer. You can just get anything video game related and they will be happy. What I have found most helpful is to observe what The Gamer has been playing most often and what games he is excited for and then buy collectables from those games. Simple!

Here are some ideas that I came up with for The Gamer in the past years and ideas that I’m working on for the future.

  • Portal 2 Test Candidate Hoodie

This one was more expensive. I bought it from Think Geek for $40. The Gamer really likes it as I see him wear it a lot, and he receives a lot of compliments on the hoodie from his fellow gaming friends. I’d say that it was worth it.

  • Creeper from Minecraft Plush Figure

I gave this to The Gamer last year. I can tell he likes it because it proudly sits on his desk to this day. I’ve also given him a Pikmin plush figure as well and he took that one for his work desk. The figures I have found range from about $10-$15. That’s not a bad price compared to other collectables for certain video games.

  • Chrono Trigger Perler Bead Sprites

Chrono Trigger collectables are extremely rare and expensive, but it’s one of The Gamer’s favorite games so I really wanted to get him something from the franchise. I fell in love with Geek Mythology Crafts on Etsy as they did perler bead video game characters, even Chrono Trigger! Perler beads can be melted together to create patterns. This works really well for retro video game characters because they look like their 8 bit forms when you look at them from a fair distance. They are about $7.50-$8 each and your gamer will love them!

  • Amiibos

This Christmas has been particularly easy since these babies are coming out soon (tomorrow)! If you don’t know what they are, they are figures that you can scan on the Wii U Gamepad and then that character can be adaptable as you play it. For example, if you’re playing Super Smash Bros. and you like to use Mario a lot, you can scan the Mario amiibo and then that character will recognize moves you use regularly and adapt. How cool is that?! Right now, they are selling for about $13 each.

  • You Fill My Hearts Picture

Homemade gifts are great! They are some of my favorite gifts to give. Yes, they take a little effort and time, but I think it makes the gift unique, other than just gifts you can just buy online or in stores. For this I found am 8-bit Link picture online, particularly one where it looked like he was holding the Tri Force. I then found another picture of the 8-bit hearts used as the life meter in the franchise. For the font I went to dafont.com and searched for a Legend of Zelda style. This website is my go-to place for cool fonts. It’s safe for your computer, it’s free, and it’s fun to see all of the unique styles. You download the file and voila, you have an awesome font. One caution though, it’s only compatible on the computer you download from. If you have to print it out on another device, you safe the file as a PDF. So I put the “You Fill My Hearts” font, the hearts, and Link all together, printed it out, and put the picture in a cheap frame! All in all it only cost me about $3 to make.

So there you have it! What do you plan to get your gamer this year? Happy hunting!
